FEBRUARY 2015 - Got into a car accident on the 401, Steve's Towing showed up, said they will drive me where I needed to go for FREE, sounds a little too good to be true. OPP shows up, says the car is situated in an un-safe place on the 401 westbound lane and needs to be moved.

SO, Steve's Towing puts the car on the flatbed of the towing vehicle. Asked them to take the vehicle to an authorized body shop, they said they could not drop the car off because it's 7pm at night and they would be held liable as the body shop was closed. Asked the tow truck driver to drop it off in front of my house, said he couldn't do that either and if he did, I would then have to make a $$ cash payment to him. So he refused to release the vehicle and said he has to take the vehicle to THEIR pound at Weston Road and 401.

They promised that the car was going to be dropped off the following morning at 7:30am, TWO DAYS LATER, THEY STILL HAVE THE CAR BECAUSE THEY NOW WANT MORE MONEY FOR THE LUDICRIS OVERNIGHT STORAGE FEES AND FOR IMPOUNDING THE CAR, and the authorized body shop and RBC Insurance refuse to pay Steve's Towing!

SCAMMERS, who just want to scam the insurance companies, no wonder our rates keep going up!!

Reason of review: Problems with payment.

Steves Towing Cons: Dishonesty, Untrustworthy.

Location: Toronto, Ontario

Are there any other good south florida tow truck companies that can do the job right?

This does not make sense, In Ontario if you get into an accident on the Hi-way they have to move you off the hi-way. The tow trucks that are able to move the cars have contracts to be on the highway.

Secondly there is always a charge for towing your car off the highway, and there will always be a charge for storing your car. But if your going threw the insurance it should not matter. Insurance will always cover the towing and storage. They will store your car in the pound that is licensed to the area that your got into the accident.

Then the insurance will contact that pound to move to the body shop of your choosing. There will always be a cost and its regulated by the ministry of transport. You also talk about impounding the car....if the OPP impounded your car it has to due to maybe drinking and driving or stunt driving. An impound is done so you dont get your car back until your settle things with the police or your suspension is up.

This post does not make sense.

This is wrong. In Ontario you have to clear the hwy sure but the laws regarding towing vary based on municipality.

If they hooked you on the Hwy in Toronto it's 188+HST - if you asked them to deliver the vehicle to a shop that night they won't drop it - not because of liability but because no one would pay them & they want it back at their shop to collect more fees. If you wanted it to be left at a closed shop/your home you have every right to but you're going to have to pay. They will always charge for the tow yes, but bootlegging it to their shop when you don't want it to and forcing you to pay ridiculous storage fees should not be a given. They will store your car in a licensed pound?

In Toronto no pounds are licensed - *** half of them aren't even zoned for wrecked cars. And as far as insurance paying everything check your Ontario Auto Policy and you'll see they're only obligated to pay reasonable fees. Just because a tow pound has your car and demands $3000 doesn't mean your insurance is going to pay that. They might stiff you with some of it or pay it into court under section 24 of the repair storage & liens act.

And as for costs being regulated by the ministry of transport that's just not how it works in ontario - it's city municipal bylaws and they're inconsistent, have holes, and only in effect for a small portion of ontario.

& this clearly isn't an OPP impound, that's when you're charged and the police impound your car due to that, this is a crooked tow truck, picking their car up and taking it to their shady pound/body shop to collect storage, fake work orders etc. There's nothing legit about this.

called OPP about a Steve's flat bed tow truck that was driving very irradically unsafe lane changes, following way too close never go near these guys!

These guys sit on the Weston road over pass, the red Pete located in front of Tim Horton south of 401 off Weston Rd,they themselves alert the opp if you have a break down and makes it sound worse than it is so the opp responds immediately while they sit in wait at the front of your vehicle so no other tow truck gets to make the tow because the opp operates on a first available tow system.so to the general public beware of Steve towing they are equipped with the tools to rip you off.secure yourself by keeping alternative towing companies numbers at your disposal in the event you need it.steve towing and his brokers all need to steal from you the general to eat and maintain their families.this is Canada! How does our government allows this to happen.there needs to be better legislation on towing companies in general.yes highway safety is paramount however thousands to remove a vehicle just a few Kms is also a concern.opp if you are reading this thanks for serving and protecting.toronto needs protection in time of distress from Steve towing

The opp is to be blamed for all this highway robbery that Steve towing is conducting on highway 401.they are fully aware of their policy and practice and have chosen their tender for towing.there is kickbacks involved and I will have the respective agency look into this practice.

steves towing are crooks .My truck broke down on 401 and Allen rd.OPP send STEVENS TOWING and asked him to tow my truck. When I asked how much is going to cost me he refused to answer and towed my bob tail.I kept silent and he asked me where to send my truck and I request to be send to Mississauga to my mechanic .When we were there he bill me almost $ 3000.

I complained that was too much for a truck without a trailer for that a mount of money. He pretended he was talking to his boss then he came with another price of $ 1700 plus taxes it came to $2017.I paid that amount but when I asked other truck drivers they said I was over charged .the price should be around $400 and not more than that because it was not an accident. The next day I call them to inquired why they have over charged me they said it because OPP have call them and some money is going to them.If that is so is our OPP corrupt ?I they suppose to help citizen or charge them fees ? I need help because there was no fairness here.
